Well shoot, why stop at the middle east. We could turn around and invade China, Russia, Europe, the rest of Asia, Africa, South America, and make the whole thing into a giant board of Risk. Then Steven Spielberg can step in and film the whole thing for an awesomely rad war movie. Seriously, if you don’t understand why people don’t support these wars then you really don’t understand why the wars are going on. We are the United States of America and how other countries choose to run their nations is their choice. If the US government stopped trying to step in and tell everyone how to run their own people, the citizens of the US wouldn’t have to worry about terrorists attacking America. Do you honestly believe that these people attack us for no reason, or because they are jealous? Listen to their reasons and maybe you’ll understand why terrorists do the things they do.
People don’t support the war because they think it was wrong the way that the US stepped in and approached things. However you look at it, US officials lied to the public. They told us that there were WMD in Iraq that weren’t there to trick us into support. Most people don’t understand why we are still in Afghanistan. And finally, most people don’t understand why we are going after these nations when the real culprit of 9/11 is alive and well. If they can find Saddam hiding in a bunker under a rock, they can find Ossama, but they don’t want to.
Here’s a new idea, the government lies to you. Study Watergate, you’ll figure it out. They think they are your parent and use what they can at their disposal to get you to agree with what they want you to do. The trick is lying. As you said, war is good for the economy, so why end it. There is this thing called diplomacy that is used to prevent these skirmishes that our current administration does not use. The use of 9/11 is a propaganda tool. They try and make you think you are a bad person if you don’t support something that was so tragic by linking it to something they want you to do. Don’t be fooled.
Finally, no, war is not cool. Talk to anyone who was in Iraq and Afghanistan and they will tell you the same. Do you really think it would be fun to have to patrol knowing at any moment you could be shot or blown up just because you were doing your job? Does it sound like fun to have thousands of people wanting to kill or hurt you because you have invaded their land?
You mention Islamic terrorists, but what about the terrorists in our own country? Every day, gang members attack each other and innocent victims. People break into your house or try and rob you at work, put a gun to your head, or shoot and kill you. Some kids get killed for wearing the wrong color. These are all terrorist acts wouldn’t you say? When are we going to focus on these people?
Think outside the box for once. Read into something if you really want to understand why. The best way to fight an argument is to look at it from the oppositions side. Remember, there is hardly ever a totally right answer and chances are your opinion is not totally accurate. Get more facts. Good Luck.
