redneck452004 asked: I have made some homemade salsa for my son in Iraq. Do I have to can it like you can tomatoes?
I guess my question is what is the best way to ship to him ?

yes, or else bacteria will grow. Mason jars are easy to use and you can buy them at your grocery store. Wrap the jar in bubble wrap (tape it) and line the bottom of the box you ship it in with cumpled up newspaper.

There’s no way it would make it there without spoiling. The military asks that if you’re going to send homemade things, you make things that won’t spoil or melt–cookies without chocolate chips, snack mixes, etc. I’d say splurge and buy some good jarred salsa, then wrap it in bubble wrap.
