How to send a letter to a soldier in Iraq?

I work for the State of Michigan and need to send a birth certificate application to a soldier in Iraq. He gave me his address, including an APO AE number and the camp he’s located at. But does mail to Iraq require any sort of postal code or anything?

You’ll need to send your letter the same way you would send it if he were in the United States. You have to pay postage only up to the point of debarkation here in the states. Once it gets to that post office, the rest of the postage is free to the combat zone. Nothing special is required except that any mail going into theater must be addressed to a specific person. They are no longer passing out “any soldier” mail for security reasons.
