It does not fit the conservative economic ideas. Conservative economic principles are that wars are expensive and it is better to prevent them by having a strong military, effective foreign policy and making sure that other countries are nervous about the idea of making you angry.
To put it simply - being ready, willing and able to kick some-body’s butt generally means that you can avoid the fight in the first place.
The problem is that the previous administration failed to follow those policies and made us appear vulnerable.
