My theater group is having a performance soon, so I think I could get a lot of people to donate something to a care package to send to some troops in Iraq. I know the rules for what you can send and how you can send it, but I don’t know how to get it to someone.

Is there a way to send it to a particular unit if you don’t have a family member whose unit you could send it to? Or team or squad, not sure about the terms.

For the package I was thinking we could put in some stuff to make life a little easier and let them know we care. Letters from the cast to the troops, maybe some written prayers, decks of cards, some time-passing books, Oreos, stuff like that. The prayers might not be that smart -don’t want to offend someone- but the rest seems like a good idea.

Was anyone stationed over there recently? Was there anything you specifically really would have liked?

Many advances in medicine, astronomy, mathematics and many other sciences were made during the middle ages. Islam had nothing to do with these. I often hear the remark that if there were a draft today, there would be more young people speaking out against the war, and this would bring the war to an end. But we had a draft for over 10 years during the Viet Nam war. I believe that it was the returning combat veterans who shared their stories publicly, which turned the tide and helped end that war.
Each service member who has spoken out has been followed by more war resisters who have come forward to oppose the war. They need the support of the peace movement. Their stories of conscience and war experiences shed light on the horror and illegality of the Iraq war. Their stories are similar to accounts from other wars, and will continue to be repeated unless we keep working to end the Iraq war and prevent future wars.
It wasn’t Jane Fonda who stopped the Vietnam war.
